Once Upon a Prince...Review

About the book:
Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by bestselling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simon's Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love.

Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's a ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation. It's the ultimate choice. His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

Simply a fun novel.  What girl hasn't ever dreamed of being a princess?  Susanna Truitt never really did and when she meets a handsome stranger on the beach, she never dreams that he is a real live prince, soon to be king.  To her, he's not Prince Nathaniel, he's just Nate and to Prince Nathaniel, Susanna is the girl of his dreams.  But, his country forbids royalty to marry foreigners and it appears that they will never be together.

When Nathaniel returns to his country after the death of his father, the king, Susanna figures she'll never see him again.  But, an invitation to his coronation is too good to pass up and Susanna and Nathaniel discover that to find the path to happiness, they must trust in God's timing.

I loved this story.  It was just fun and full of terrific, quirky characters.  Nathaniel and Susanna were fantastic.   The premise, while not completely believable wasn't completely over the top either.  I think the author found a perfect blend of fantasy and reality.

This is the first in a series and I look forward to more.

  1. YES! Totally agree - it was "all" fairytale but not over-the-top unbelievable either, Holly. Glad you enjoyed it as well.
